The
community is invited to a national parks day luncheon on Tuesday, May 14 from
12:00-1:00pm at Teton
Science Schools Jackson Campus, 700 Coyote Canyon Road.
The Jackson Hole Rotary Lunch
Club and the Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce will present the luncheon
featuring Grand Teton National Park Superintendent Mary Gibson Scott and
Yellowstone National Park Superintendent Dan Wenk. Learn about the state of the
national parks today and hear about plans for the future. Questions will be
accepted with RSVPs. Special thanks to Senator Leland Christensen for
organizing this important community event.
A recent National Park Service
(NPS) report for 2011 showed that 3,394,326 visitors to Yellowstone National
Park spent $332,975,000 in communities surrounding the park. This spending
supported 5,041 jobs in the local area. 2,587,437 visitors to Grand Teton
National Park spent over $436,416,000 in gateway communities surrounding the
park. That spending, in turn, supported 6,397 jobs in the northwestern Wyoming
communities of Jackson, Teton Village, and Dubois, as well as the nearby Idaho
